Classical Fairy Tales from Brothers Grimm

19 10 2010

Who doesn’t love fairytales when small? 🙂

Grimm’s Fairytales. Well, what can I say?

Brothers Grimm have been very famous for gathering plenty of fairytales and collecting them in this little book. It includes one of the most famous versions of those tales, including Cinderella, Golden Goose and Little Red Riding Hood.

I might need to mention, though, that this version might be a little different from what you know. Snow White, for example, is quite different here, in comparison to Disney’s version. In Brother Grimm’s version, Snow White is told to be having a dearest sister named Red Rose, who is in fact much more energetic in behaviour. They both are the protagonists in that story, and together they help a prince in a disguise of a bear (you’ll be surprised with how many people who immediately judge Red Rose as an evil sister when I mention it).

Oh, well, what the heck. After all, fairytales always have a set of different versions. 🙂

Anyway, if you’re looking for bedtime stories for your children tonight, you can download it for free in KoboBooks. Enjoy yourself with classical tales from Brothers Grimm! Have fun!

Generosity for Christmas

14 10 2010

Another book you might like! 🙂

<Copyright of the picture is on the producer>

Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol. Well, what can I say? It’s one of the best choices for Christmas reading! Beginning with another chilly day of Christmas, we’ll be introduced to Ebenezer Scrooge, a rich man with great loathe towards Christmas. In the first pages, we will examine how Scrooge treats all the others so badly, pays his own employee with minimum wage, and even drives away all relatives around him.

But as cliché says, nothing bad will go unpunished. All along the story, Scrooge will have to understand the true meaning behind generosity and togetherness, especially in the middle of Christmas like this. And to help him with this little quest, Scrooge will be accompanied by three ghosts of Christmas, who will bring him to different places and times to see how the world really is.

…And now, guys, Christmas is coming. Hurry up and find this book for a nice reading in Christmas Eve! You can download this book for free in KoboBooks. Remember: the important thing in Christmas is togetherness!

Have fun, guys! 🙂

Original Alice in Wonderland

10 10 2010

Okay, who doesn’t know Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland?

 Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

<Copyright of the picture is on the producer>

Well, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard that name very often lately, especially with the newest movie that has been made based on this story. It’s also an important story in the literature, which has influenced the creation of metaphor “Mad as a hatter”, which is quite often used to describe lunatics by this time (for reference, please check our beloved Wikipedia here).

Well, by this point onwards, I bet you notice I don’t sleep in all of my subjects! 🙂

Okay, back to the post. Anyway, even though all of these movies are made based on the original story itself, there’s still a difference between the original and the absorbed one. Not a big difference, of course, and I don’t say that the new ones aren’t good. In fact, I do love it; however, it’s not a big problem to read the original, is it? 🙂

You can download the original here, and by the time you read it, I believe you can see the classical feeling inside! This is the difference I was talking about: not about the story difference, but rather the feeling inside. The new stories, after all, are more modern the original, and this will result in style difference between two of them. C’mon! Why don’t you try to check it? 🙂

Have fun, guys!

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Aside of its very long title (especially if compared to most of nowadays’ novels), this is one book that has become a legend in the world of literature. It’s especially famous because of its dark theme on “split personality” of a human being—which is especially rare by that time. Well, its complexity is another reason why this book is the most memorable masterpiece of all time! 🙂

If you like a classical stories, this book is a must. If you fall in love to mystery stories and psychological issues, this book is also a must. If you like a twisted story with crazy ideas you never thought of before, this book is a super-must.

You will enjoy its dark, mysterious theme and thrilling feeling you can find in every time you flip to the next page (well, or scroll down to the next page, if you read it via computer). You can download this book at KoboBooks for free; though, if you want a better quality, you might consider buy it with a very cheap price.

If you’re still hesitated, you can get more reviews of it at Colony Library Lady and Reading Room. Have fun, guys! 🙂

NaNoWriMo – Ready, Set, Wait!

24 09 2010

Well, guys and gals, NaNoWriMo almost begins again….

<Copyright of the picture is on the creator>

What is NaNoWriMo? If you’re still new with that word, it’s short for National Novel Writing Month, which usually takes place in November and July. The main aim in this event is to write minimum 50,000 words in 30 days.

Yes, 50,000 words in 30 days. That means you must at least write around 1,600 words per day to complete it before November finishes. And, this year, I’ll be participating….

…Man, I have scared my head off already. 😦

November… that should be the busiest time in college. I guess I’ll have lots of homework by that time, including essays, presentations and tests. Let alone I still have to find a part-time job, which means it’d be even crazier if I decide to join in. That might mean I’d have to wake up so late, just to complete daily word limit, but still have to attend lectures at uni the next day….

…Oh, what the heck. Isn’t that the reason God creates coffee? 🙂

So, I suppose, the busiest day is not November but October, in which I have to complete as many works as possible before NaNoWriMo begins. I’ll have to be the first in presentations (if possible, finish all of them before November) to survive NaNoWriMo, or else I’d have to complete it at December. The choice is only two: the first, or the last.

Wicked, huh?

Anyhow, if any of you is interested to join, you can check NaNoWriMo’s website here. Especially if you want to be a novelist, this is your BIG chance. C’mon, hurry up! When October comes, you’ll have to start finishing your works for NaNoWriMo! Let’s see if we’ll still be breathing by December. 🙂

…*Sigh* Now I have to collect as many music as possible, to listen to it on November.

Marley & Me – Enthusiasm, Excitement and Togetherness

20 09 2010

I admit this post is rather off-topic, for you can’t get this one for free. But it’s still so full of morals and awesomeness, that I’m sure you can get an advantage from it.

<Copyright of the picture is on the publisher>

Marley & Me. Well, if you have a dog, or at least are fond of this little creature, I’m sure you’d like this movie! Before this, I have read book, too, and found it’s also very interesting and… touching. Yes, touching—especially the latest chapters.

Well, but this book and movie aren’t only for dog-lovers only. It’s about enthusiasm, excitement in approaching life, togetherness of a family and sadness of losing something important in your life. This is a story of Marley and John Grogan—a real story.

If you haven’t watched this movie, you must watch it now. If you have watched it but haven’t read the book, you must read it now. Seriously, it’s a great real-life story! Everyone can get a new perspective from it! Appreciate your life like what Marley does! 🙂
